Recipe Type: Drinks | Serves: Makes 8 Cups

Ingredients

  • Red Wine: 1.5 L

  • Orange: 1, sliced

  • Pomegranate: 1, seeded

  • Lemon: 1, sliced

  • Apples: 2, sliced

  • Cranberries: 1/2 cup

  • Cinnamon Sticks: 2

  • Cloves: 1 tbsp

  • Star anise: 2-3

  • Brandy or Cognac: 1/4 cup

  • Maple Syrup: for added sweetness (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a large pot. Warm the mixture over medium-low heat until steaming, When you start seeing the tiny bubbles on the surface, reduce the heat to the lowest setting.  Cover and leave to sit at least 20 minutes.

  2. Using a ladle, pour into mugs or double-walled glasses and enjoy!

If you like your mulled wine a little sweeter, feel free to add in some maple syrup or cane sugar! I find that the longer it sits, the apple sweetness really comes through, so I opt for no added sweetness!
Try not to get your mulled wine to boil, keep a close eye on it while heating.
The best red wines to use for mulled wine are Garnacha, Merlot or Zinfandel!
